New Waves  Foundation

New Waves Pitiüses Foundation is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the protection, care and long-term management of the marine seabed of Ibiza, one of the most fragile and valuable marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean.

Ibiza hosts extraordinary underwater habitats, including extensive meadows of Posidonia oceanica, a protected marine plant essential for water clarity, coastal stability, biodiversity and climate regulation. The intense seasonal tourism and nautical pressure on the island make these seabeds particularly vulnerable to damage.

What we do

• Winter seabed management: targeted clean-ups, monitoring and restoration when marine conditions allow effective intervention.

• Scientific monitoring and mapping: data-driven assessment of seabed health and Posidonia meadows.

• Operational guidelines: concrete protocols for nautical operators, coastal works and marine activities.

• Training and awareness: education for professionals, residents and visitors on respectful marine behavior.

• Coordination and collaboration: working alongside public authorities, research institutions and local enterprises.
